Sculpture - Deep Sea Katau

Sculpture - Deep Sea Katau
This is an opalite mermaid in brilliant blue. Opalite is a synthetic glass made to look similar to natural opal or moonstone. This sculpture has never been owned before. It was made in March 2025. Trinidad reimagines this blue mermaid as a deep sea Kataw or Katau, a royal Visayan merperson who lives in the underwater kingdom of Bantay Tubig. They differ from the typical sirena because they are primordial elementals or engkantos. They are closer in species to the Titans of Greece rather than Ariel of The Little Mermaid.
Trinidad enchanted and consecrated this sculpture using a folk water goddess ritual at the Dragon Mountain monastery in California. Place it on your altar by your water offering bowl or chalice for powerful sea-spirit guidance.
